Women’s leadership role in focus at Istanbul meet

RIYADH: Muna AbuSulayman, secretary general of the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation chaired by Prince Alwaleed, participated in the Women's Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equality’s (WISE) third global conference on Muslim women leaders at the front lines of change last month in Istanbul.

This year, the conference focused on the religious barriers that hinder Muslim women from assuming leadership positions, among other themes.

AbuSulayman was a panelist on a session on “Women Who Rise: An Exploration of Muslim Women.”

As secretary-general of the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation, AbuSulayman is involved in managing the foundation’s work that supports organizations, studies, and academic centers focusing on empowering Saudi women, alleviating poverty, upgrading services provided to the population and enhancing social infrastructure in the country.

The foundation is also directly involved in major projects that provide direct aid to the citizens of Saudi Arabia ranging from medical aid to housing. Other projects the foundation is involved in include the distribution of electric generators in remote villages and printing and the translation of the Holy Qur’an into 13 languages.
